Chiefs fall to Brumbies

4:45 am on 20 February 2011

The ACT Brumbies have beaten the Chiefs 28-20 in Canberra at the start of their Super Rugby campaign after leading 18-3 at half-time.

A late try to the replacement prop Salesi Ma'afu secured the victory just as the Chiefs looked as if they might sneak in with tries to Sitiveni Sivivatu and replacement halfback Tawera Kerr-Barlow.

But they didn't deserve to win, bombing three tries in three minutes early in the match, including one with captain Mils Muliaina dropping a pass with the tryline open.

Lelia Masaga scored a consolation try for the Chiefs after the final siren but Tkm Nanai Williams couldn't convert it.

Stephen Donald kicked one conversion and a penalty.
