Ticket prices irk Manchester United boss

The Manchester United football manager Sir Alex Ferguson has slammed the price of tickets for the Champions League final at Wembley on May the 28th as a killer for fans.

UEFA this week admitted ticket prices for the showpiece would be the most expensive ever.

The cheapest tickets on general sale will cost 176 pounds ($NZ 376), which includes an administration fee.

The ticket prices have nearly doubled since Ferguson's United played Barcelona in the 2009 final in Rome, when they cost 80 pounds ($NZ 171).

Speaking at UEFA's ticket launch at London's City Hall, director of competitions Giorgio Marchetti said the prices were consistent with comparable top-tier sporting events such as the World Cup final.

Ferguson's team, who face Marseille in the Champions League last 16 first leg this week, could be playing in the Wembley final and the United boss is stunned that ticket prices are so high.
