The Queensland Firebirds upset the NSW Swifts 51-48 in their trans-Tasman championship netball match last night in Brisbane.
Desperate for a maiden finals finish in the fourth season of the competition, the Firebirds showed much promise for this season, with their international shooters Natalie Medhurst and Romelda Aiken starring under extreme pressure during the final quarter.
The Firebirds' win was watched by one of their smallest home crowds, thanks to a wild storm which delayed the start.
