The Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka struck twice as the London football side shrugged off poor domestic form to win 2-nil at FC Copenhagen and seize control of their Champions League last 16 tie.
The Danish champions, in the knockout round for the first time, held Barcelona at the Parken Stadium in the group phase but were brushed aside in the first leg by Carlo Ancelotti's team who are firmly on track to reach the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile Real Madrid were denied victory when Olympique Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis struck late to earn his side a 1-all draw in France.
