Cycling teams ramp up protests over use of team radios

12:26 pm on 26 February 2011

Cycling teams have urged the International Cycling Union, the UCI, to hold talks over a ban on radio earpieces for riders which is being phased in by 2012.

The teams, who protested on the opening stage of the Challenge of Mallorca this month by using the banned radios, say safety is the main issue and reject a claim that their use means sporting directors can engineer results.

The professional cycling teams association has called on the UCI to reconsider the ban and threatened further protests.
