The ACT Brumbies have sacked coach Andy Friend just two matches into the Super rugby competition.

The decison follows reports in local media of dissension between the coach and his players in recent days.

Friend had met players and support staff on Monday in a bid to clear the air.

The Brumbies failed to reach the semi-finals in the past two seasons under Friend, whose contract was due to expire after the current season.

The lost to competition newcomers the Melbourne Rebels at the weekend after winning their opening game of the season.
