Just a week out from the start of the new National Rugby League season, the NRL's betting scandal exploded with the arrests of high-profile player manager Sam Ayoub and former player John Elias who were charged with attempting to defraud betting agencies.
It happened on the same day that further charges were laid against Canterbury-Bankstown forward Ryan Tandy.
