On the back of a season-high from big man Matthew Knight, the Perth Wildcats have consolidated second spot on the ANBL basketball ladder with an 83-60 victory over the Cairns Taipans at Challenge Stadium.
The Wildcats hadn't played since beating Adelaide by 20 points at home back on February the 20th, but had still moved back up into second spot on the table thanks to the Townsville Crocodiles losing to New Zealand and Wollongong.
Sunday's 23-point victory over Cairns improves the Cats to a 15-10 record on the season and keeps them ahead of the third-placed Crocs.
Cairns have now lost six of their last seven games to hold a 12-12 record with four games remaining, but still stay in fourth spot just ahead of Wollongong and Gold Coast.
Knight has missed 13 games through injury this season, but showed his importance to the Wildcats' championship chance with a season-high 21 points in a strong performance that saw him nail 7-of-10 from the field and pull in seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, the Sydney Kings have ended the Melbourne Tigers' slim finals hopes with a hard-fought 95-86 victory in an entertaining encounter at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
