New pitch adds to mystery before key group A match

A brand new pitch has added to the mystery ahead of the New Zealand cricketers key World Cup group match later today against Pakistan.

It'll be the first international match on the new Pallekele stadium pitch, in the Sri Lankan hill city of Kandy, and it's absence of history will give both sides plenty to think about.

Pakistan are on top of Group A with maximum points after three games while the Black Caps are fourth behind Sri Lanka and Australia.

Kandy has suffered from persistent rains recently. The Sri Lanka-West Indies test in December was drawn wuithout a single innings being completed, and World Cup warmup games were moved because of bad weather.

The match starts at 10 o'clock tonight.
