Cougars withdraw from NBL

The Christchurch Cougars have withdrawn from this year's National Basketball League due to the effects of last month's earthquake in the city.

Sam Rossiter-Stead, Chairman of the NBL, says the Board will be working with the Cougars' owners and the basketball community in Christchurch to ensure the future of an elite team in the region.

Rossiter-Stead says with the new season tipping-off in just five weeks, there is no time to replace the Cougars and a new draw will be circulated as soon as it is available.

Amy Gardiner, CEO and Founder of the Christchurch Cougars, says the earthquake has severely affected the people of Christchurch, not to mention many of their sponsors, management and their fans.
