South Africa have handed India their first loss at the cricket World Cup, the Proteas winning their group game against the co-hosts India at Nagpur by three wickets.
Set 297 for victory, the Proteas got home with two balls remaining, making 300 for seven thanks to tail-ender Robin Peterson, who broke Indian hearts by blasting 16 runs off the final over.
The hosts should have posted a much higher score but nine Indian wickets including centurion Sachin Tendulkar's fell for just 29 runs as the middle and lower order collapsed from a promising position, with South African fast bowler Dale Steyn claiming a five-wicket bag for 50 runs.
India remain top of their group, South Africa move up to third with two games remaining.
