Mystics edge Magic in Hamilton

The Northern Mystics took another step towards ditching their tag as New Zealand netball's perennial underachievers with their first trans-tasman championship win over the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic in Hamilton last night.

The Magic looked to be heading for an eighth successive victory against the Mystics but an intercept by defender Anna Scarlett in the final moments and a long -range shot from goal attack Maria Tutaia on the final whistle lifted the Mystics to a thrilling 47-46 win at the Mystery Creek Events Centre.

The Mystics are now second equal with the previously unbeaten Magic, the win highlighting their new-found status as genuine title contenders.
