John Terry could return as England captain

The England football manager Fabio Capello's considering relieving Rio Ferdinand of his captaincy duties and handing the role back to former skipper John Terry.

Ferdinand was made captain when Chelsea skipper Terry was relieved of his duties in February last year after reports that he had an affair with the former partner of England team-mate Wayne Bridge.

Since then though Ferdinand has made only four appearances for England because of injury.

Capello says he wants to avoid the situation that arose in England's last match against Denmark where the captain's armband was handed around to a variety of players as they were substituted.

England's next match is against Wales on Sunday week.
