Breakers beat Kings

5:53 am on 18 March 2011

The New Zealand Breakers have scored a 91-86 victory over the Sydney Kings at the North Shore Events Centre in their Australian National Basketball League round 23 clash.

The top-of-the-table Breakers had already clinched the NBL minor premiership prior to the match and were not expected to be troubled by the Kings, who only climbed off the bottom of the ladder into eighth last week.

The Kings made the Breakers work all the way however and were within a single point in the final minute with possession before a turnover.

The Breakers then made four consecutive free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Gary Wilkinson top-scored for the Breakers with 28 points, while Kirk Penney added 26 and Mika Vukona 16 and eight rebounds.

The loss drops the Kings (8-18) back to last on the ladder while the Breakers improved to 20-6 at the top of the ladder.

The Breakers have 2 matches left before the play-offs.
