The New Zealand rugby sevens captain DJ Forbes returns to the side for the Hong Kong and Adelaide legs of the IRB World Series after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Las Vegas tournament last month.

Coach Gordon Tietjens says it's important to win next weekend's Hong Kong tournament to pull ahead of England as there are more points on offer with 24 teams participating.

New Zealand is first equal with England in the World Series after four tournaments.

The rest of the team is: Toby Arnold Scott Curry (Bay of Plenty), Tomasi Cama, Lote Raikabula (Manawatu), Rory Grice, Frank Halai, Tim Mikkelson, Declan O'Donnell (Waikato), Bryce Heem (Auckland), Solomon King (North Harbour), Buxton Popoalii (Otago).
