Manchester United have moved five points clear of Arsenal at the top of the English football Premiership, after 10-man United escaped with a very late 1-0 win over visitors Bolton Wanderers while Arsenal could only draw 2-2 at West Bromwich Albion.

Substitute striker Dimitar Berbatov broke the deadlock at Old Trafford with two minutes to go, tapping home after Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen spilled the ball.

United defender Jonny Evans was red carded for a two-footed lunge but it didn't matter for the league leaders.

Elsewhere All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen's Blackburn Rovers came back to also draw 2-2 at Blackpool and remain above the Tangerines by two places in 13th, but still just a point above the relegation zone in a very congested table.

Stoke City thrashed Newcastle United 4-0 at the Britannia Stadium, Wigan Athletic remain bottom despite a 2-1 win over Birmingham City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers put the pressure on Aston Villa with a 1-0 away win to move within a point of the Birmingham side, though Wolves remain in the drop zone.

Tottenham Hotspur played out a scoreless draw with cross-town rivals West Ham United at White Hart Lane and Everton continued their improvement sending Fulham back to London with a 2-1 reverse.
