The Olympic 1500m silver medallist Nick Willis will compete in the 5000m, at the national track and field champs in Dunedin this weekend.
Willis says his training is currently distance rather than speed based and his coach wants him to run the event as it's more in keeping with his training regime.
The 5000m is on Friday afternoon.
The Olympic, Commonwealth and World shot put champion Valerie Adams will also compete at the event, chasing her eleventh national shot put title.
Adams has competed twice this season with world leading performances at the recent Auckland champs and in Sydney last Saturday.
The World junior shot put champion Jacko Gill is also competing and hopes to break the world record for 19 year olds of 22.73m.
