Crusaders beat Sharks in Twickenham thriller

8:20 am on 28 March 2011

The Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder said before this morning's match against the Sharks at Twickenham his side could return to London if the game was a success, and the two sides produced a 72-point thriller won by the Crusaders 44-28 before a crowd of 35-thousand.

In the first Super Rugby game played in the northern hemisphere, Daniel Carter scored 22 points including a try, and Sonny Bill Williams displayed his full range of offloading and ball-running skills.

On the downside the Crusaders played the last 10 minutes with only 14 men after a rash of injuries, including Carter and Kieran Reid, which used up all their replacements.

Fortunately they have a bye this weekend.

In the meantime they've gone to the top of the New Zealand conference, and they're joint leaders overall with the Queensland Reds.
