The Blues have won their third straight Super Rugby game, beating the Cheetahs 29-22 in Whangarei.

The Auckland-based side led the South Africans 14-3 at half-time, the Blues outscoring the Cheetahs by four tries to three and grabbing the vital bonus point.

Halfback Sarel Pretorious scored two of the Cheetahs' tries after the break to get his side back in the game, but the Blues fullback Isaia Toeava's bonus point try near the end proved decisive, though the Cheetahs crossed again through prop Coenraad Oosthuizen to make it an interesting final few minutes.

Stephen Brett, Joe Rokocoko and Peter Saili scored the other Blues tries while Luke McAlister had a strong game with three conversions and a penalty.

Naas Olivier converted two of the Cheetahs' tries while Sias Ebersohn kicked one penalty.
