New Zealand squash number one Joelle King's been beaten by Australian former world number two Natalie Grinham in the final of the Atwater Cup WISPA tournament in Montreal.

The third seeded King fell just short of her sixth title on the World Tour, going down to the unseeded Grinham, who is back on the circuit after a year off to have a baby, 11-6, 11-7, 14-12.

King had earlier beaten top seed Vanessa Atkinson in four games to reach the title decider.

Fellow Commonwealth Games doubles gold medallist Jaclyn Hawkes failed to make the last two, after going down 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 to Grinham in the semis.

King and Hawkes will now head to the Cayman Islands Open, where Hawkes has drawn the daunting prospect of world number one Nicol David in the opening round, while King will have to negotiate her way through qualifying to get into the main draw.

New Zealand's Martin Knight is through to the final of the PSA World Tour's Hibiscus Gardens Open in Brisbane.

The second seed fought back from a game down in the semi-finals to beat South Australian Mike Corren 8-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-5.
