Bell and Kean qualify

Backstroke stars Daniel Bell and Gareth Kean have driven each other to world championship qualifying swims on the second night of the New Zealand Championships in Auckland.

The pair went under the FINA A time to qualify for July's world championships in Shanghai, taking the number of qualifiers to five after two days.

Kean had matched the qualifying time in topping the morning heats in 55.14 seconds with Bell second fastest in 55.37,

But the Commonwealth Games silver medalist Bell dominated the final, winning in 54.40 with Kean finishing strongly for second in 55.02.

Olympian Melissa Ingram took out the women's 100m backstroke but went marginally slower than her morning heat and missed out on qualifying for Shanghai.
