Man U appeal on Rooney's behalf

9:08 am on 6 April 2011

Manchester United have accepted Wayne Rooney's charge from the English FA for swearing at a TV camera, but the club is appealing against his two-match ban.

Rooney was charged with using abusive language after scoring one of his three goals against West Ham last weekend, but he claims the automatic two match penalty is excessive.

If the appeal is unsuccessful Rooney will miss Manchester United's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

The case will be heard tonight.
