Rising sevens star declined diversion for assualt

Declan O'Donnell, the up and coming New Zealand rugby sevens star accused of assaulting two men in a Hamilton pub brawl will face the courts after his application for diversion was declined.

Name suppression for the 20-year-old Waikato man lapsed yesterday.

O'Donnell, who stormed his way into the headlines with an outstanding performance at the Wellington Sevens, has been declined diversion on a charge of injuring with intent to injure and common assault relating to two different complainants from an incident at The Outback Inn on January the 21st.

O'Donnell will reappear in the Hamilton District Court on May the 11th.
