Vettori's successor should be appointed by end of May

New Zealand Cricket hopes to have appointed a successor to retiring Black Caps skipper Dan Vettori by the end of next month at the latest.

Vettori confirmed at the recent World Cup that he was stepping down from the role but intended to continue playing test cricket.

The chief executive of New Zealand Cricket Justin Vaughan says the process will be a little drawn out though with the appointment of a High Performance Director to be made in the next couple of weeks and that appointee, along with the Black Cap selectors and coach John Wright, will be involved in the decision.

Vaughan says with the New Zealand side's next matches not for another six months there's no need to rush an appointment.
