Steel too sharp in Dunedin

6:28 pm on 9 April 2011

The Southern Steel netballers have beaten the Canterbury Tactix 49-40 in their ANZ championship game in Dunedin.

The Steel came back from a five-point deficit after the first quarter at the Edgar Centre to lead 25-23 at half-time and the home side extended that to an 8-point edge heading into the final quarter.

It was the Tactix' second game in three days after they lost to the Mystics in Auckland on Thursday.

The Cantabrians have now played four times in nine days and faded from a five-point early lead to lose the last three quarters and the game.

Skipper Donna Wilkins is a former Silver Fern and has also represented New Zealand in basketball with the Tall Ferns and Wilkins, née Loffhagen, says it is a tough timetable for the Tactix but that's just part of the game now.
