Arsenal beat Blackpool 3-1 this morning to close within seven points of the Premier League leaders Manchester United with a game in hand.
Arsenal's 41 year old goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, who left the club in 2008 but rejoined last year as emergency cover, was called up to start the match, and he avoided a possible sending off in the 52 minute when he brought down a Blackpool player in the penalty area.
Aston Villa beat Newcastle 1-nil.
