Barrett to play a part for Hurricanes this weekend

The Hurricanes assistant coach Alama Ieremia says it's unlikely the Taranaki first five Beauden Barrett will start against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this weekend.

Barrett and Jayden Hayward have joined up with the Hurricanes for their trip to South Africa, following injuries to Conrad Smith and Aaron Cruden in the loss to the ACT Brumbies on Saturday night.

19-year-old Barrett has been a member of the Hurricanes wider training squad and last year played for the New Zealand sevens team.

Ieremia says it would be a big call to put him straight into the starting lineup.

Ieremia says they had a very frank review after the loss to the Brumbies and the side remains very positive about the rest of the season.
