Waitakere United have won the New Zealand football Premiership title after beating Auckland City 3-2 on the stroke of full-time in a dramatic grand final at Trusts Stadium yesterday, and evergreen player coach Neil Emblen is thanking the gods the game didn't go to extra time.
The game was locked up at 2-all deep into injury time and looked destined for another period before a defensive howler from Auckland City led to an own goal gifting Waitakere their second title in as many years.
The 39-year-old Emblen, only playing in the final due to a injury crisis, says an extra thirty minutes would have have killed Waitakere's title ambitions.
Auckland City still have a chance to claim some silverware this season when they take on Vanuatu side Amicale FC in the Oceania Champions League final second leg in Auckland on Saturday.
Auckland FC lead 2-1 after the first leg.
