Langman brings up century for Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic

2:08 pm on 11 April 2011

Silver Fern Laura Langman will become the second Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic player to achieve a century of games for the netball franchise, when the Magic play the New South Wales Swifts in Tauranga tonight.

Langman's feat comes a week after shooter Irene van Dyk reached the mark but Langman's hoping for a different outcome, with van Dyk reaching the mark in the loss to competition leaders the Queensland Firebirds last round.

Langman, who's 24 and captain of the side, first played for the Magic in 2003 while still at school.

Tonight's match is the first of three games in seven days for the Magic and Langman says they have spent a lot of time concentrating on recovery during the competition this year and ensuring they handle the change in temperature between New Zealand and Australia properly to avoid illness.

The Swifts also have three games in seven day and are currently fourth in the trans-Tasman competition two points behind the Magic.

Coach Julie Fitzgerald says while they've had patches of brillance this year they've failed to be consistent and is aware one more loss could rule them out of the playoffs.
