The Northern Mystics have scored their first win on Australian soil, beating the West Coast Fever 56-54 in their trans-tasman netball clash in Perth.
The Mystics were behind for three-quarters of the match, with captain Temepara George saying they used wise heads in the final quarter - not forcing the ball into the shooting circle, to score eight goals straight in their recovery from a four-goal deficit.
The result moves the Mystics up to second in the standings behind the unbeaten Queensland Firebirds, while the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic have dropped out of the top four after losing 53-46 to the New South Wales Swifts in Tauranga.
The Swifts led by 14 at half-time as the home side conceded 18 turnovers which forced Magic coach Noeline Taurua to make a couple of personel changes.
The Magic closed to within five in the final quarter, but the Swifts were playing their best netball of the season and held on to win.
With three rounds remainng Queensland have 20 points, the Mystics 14, the Melbourne Vixens, Swifts and Magic 12. A victory is worth two points.
