The nine time US Olympic gold medallist Carl Lewis has announced plans to enter politics, running for the New Jersey Senate.
The 49-year-old will represent his hometown of Willingboro by running as a Democrat.
Lewis won four gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and two in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
He won the gold in the long jump at his last Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta.
Lewis finished second to Canadian Ben Johnson in the 100 metre final in Seoul but three days later was awarded the gold when Johnson tested positive for steroids.
