Breakers star to face ANBL Tribunal

12:50 pm on 16 April 2011

The New Zealand Breakers have had an unwanted distraction before their Australian National Basketball League Grand Final series opener with their star forward Gary Wilkinson waiting for a disciplinary tribunal decision.

The big American's been charged over his role in the on-court scuffle that marred the deciding home semi-final series win over Perth.

Unduly rough play has a maximum penalty of a two-match suspension but chief executive Richard Clarke says input from the referees should help as they didn't call a foul on Wilkinson and he has a very good disciplinary record.

Wilkinson and Perth's Kevin Lisch tangled early in the fourth quarter, sparking a melee which ended with the Wildcats' Andre Brown sent off for hitting the Breakers forward Mika Vukona.

Lisch has also been charged with unduly rough play and Brown with striking.

Their charges will be heard at the weekend.
