The Hurricanes have somehow beaten South African side the Cheetahs 50-47 in a Super Rugby try-fest in Bloemfontein.

A last minute length-of-the-field try finished by lock Jeremy Thrush saw the Wellington-based side snap a four-game losing streak to record just their second win of the season.

The Hurricanes found themselves trailing by three points as the clock ticked down but a superb breakout from deep inside their own half resulted in lock Thrush been given a clear run to the tryline.

The lead changed 12 times as the two teams combined for 11 tries including seven in the first half.

The Hurricanes trailed 33-30 at half-time but already had the bonus point for four tries.

They climb the ladder up to 10th, while the Blues moved to fourth, a point off the top-placed Queensland Reds and Crusaders with a 31-17 win over the New South Wales Waratahs at Eden Park.

The Queensland Reds remain top after beating the champions from South Africa, the Bulls, 39-30 in Brisbane.

The Stormers beat the Lions 33-19 in the South African derby to go third.
