The world marathon record holder Haile Gebrselassie hopes to secure a place in the Ethiopian team for the 2012 London Olympics with a fast time in the Berlin marathon in September.
Gebrselassie, who turned 38 earlier this week, clocked 60:18 in a half marathon in Vienna on Monday.
Gebrselassie, who set his world mark of two hours three minutes 59 seconds in Berlin three years ago, stunned the sporting world when he announced his retirement after dropping of the New York marathon last November.
He subsequently rescinded his decision and said he would like to end his running career in London next year.
Gebrselassie says he doesn't think a time of two hours six minutes would be enough to ensure selection for the Ethiopian team.
Gebrselassie's world record was beaten by Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai who ran the fastest marathon in history to win the 115th Boston Marathon on Tuesday.
But Mutai's time of two hours, three minutes and two seconds will not be not ratified as a new record because he was aided by a tailwind on a downhill course.
