NFL ordered to lift player lockout

11:43 am on 26 April 2011

The NFL's lockout of players has been lifted after a court granted a preliminary injunction from nine players.

A court in Minnesota has backed the players request to, temporarily at least, order the league to end the lockout that was imposed after the breakdown in talks between players and owners in mid-March.

The NFL is expected to appeal.

Should there be no stay of appeal then the NFL would have to begin normal off-season procedures, allowing players to return to work and for free agency deals to be struck.

If, however, the NFL is granted a stay of appeal, then the lockout will remain in place until the appeal process has been fully resolved.
