Rugby Union won't confirm reported Maori, Springbok clash

The Rugby Union won't confirm reports that the New Zealand Maori rugby team will square off against the Springboks later this year.

The Rugby News website says the Maori will play two matches against a shadow Springbok side after the World Cup here.

The Chair of the Maori Rugby Board, Wayne Peters, says there are some exciting options on the table for the Maori this year, but he won't confirm any fixtures as negotiations are still underway.

In December the South African Rugby Union amended a post-apartheid policy preventing its teams competing against opponents selected on racial grounds.

The policy prevented the Springboks playing the Maori in last year's centenary series.

Peters says he's hoping to make an announcement in the coming weeks on an end of year programme for the Maori side.
