Knee injury forces Tiger out of PGA event

Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods will not play next week's US PGA event in Charlotte because of two injuries suffered at the Masters.

Woods says he will miss the $US6.5 million Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow where Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy is the defending champion.

Woods says he's disappointed but he must follow doctors' orders to rest a sprained left knee ligament and strained left Achilles tendon.

Woods, who has not won since his infamous sex scandal erupted 17 months ago, says there is no time frame for his return but that he hoped to be back in a few weeks.
