Cairns insists they won't be underdogs

Feisty Cairns insist they aren't adopting an underdog mentality as they attempt to deny the New Zealand Breakers basketball team a piece of trans-Tasman sporting history in tonight's NBL grand final decider in Auckland.

Locals are clamouring for the Breakers to become the first New Zealand team to win a primarily Australian sporting competition.

Minor premiers New Zealand are favoured to win a match between two teams striving to capture their first NBL title.

Cairns forward Alex Loughton says the vibe among the players is positive they're NOT going into the game feeling like underdogs.

Loughton nominated shutting down Penney as a key factor for Cairns, but stresses they can't focus too much on a single player.
