Big weekend for Northern Mystics

5:50 pm on 30 April 2011

It's a big weekend for the Northern Mystics in the trans-Tasman netball championship as they look to lose the under-performers tag and finally secure their first ever play-off spot.

The equation is simple - the Mystics need to beat the Southern Steel in Invercargil on Sunday to make the top four.

The Mystics, with shooting star Catherine Latu out to prove why she deserves to be a Silver Fern, are favourites but the Steel are no easy-beats at home.

A win is unlikely to push them higher than fourth, so looking ahead they'll be playing away to either the Melbourne Vixens or New South Wales Swifts in the minor semi-final.

On Monday the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic should beat the Central Pulse and finish second which means they'll play the unbeaten Queensland Firebirds in the major semi-final, but get a second life should they lose that game.
