Bubba Watson has claimed his second US PGA Tour golf title of the year when he edged out fellow American Webb Simpson in a sudden-death playoff to win the New Orleans Classic.
But Simpson, in search of his first US PGA Tour title, was desperately unlucky as he incurred a rare one-stroke penalty late in his round when his ball moved after he addressed it to putt on the 15th green.
The extra shot counted heavily, forcing a playoff as both he and fellow overnight leader Watson carded three-under 69s to finish on 15-under 273.
Watson holed a three-foot birdie putt to win at the second extra hole, adding the title at TPC Louisiana to his success at Torrey Pines in January.
He earned 1.4 million dollars for the victory and he is expected to jump from 16th to 10th in the world rankings.
