UCI takes legal action against Landis

World cycling's governing body is suing the disgraced former Tour de France winner Floyd Landis for libel.

The president of the International Cycling Union Pat McQuaid and former president Hein Verbruggen have lodged a case in the Swiss courts against Landis in response to "repeated, serious attacks" against their characters.

Landis, who last year confessed to drug taking, named McQuaid and Verbruggen among cycling chiefs he claimed had protected some riders over the past 20 years.
