Not pretty but we'll take it: Big Ali

The Blues lock Ali Williams says the Auckland-based side continue to prove they can win ugly and they're more than happy to do so if it keeps them at the top of the Super Rugby table.

Pat Lam's side tightened their hold on first place with a 17-11 win over the Hurricanes in Wellington last night, in a match that struggled to reach mediocre.

Williams, who is looking to regain his All Black jersey, says the Blues know how to do it tough and that's all they wanted.

He says it wasn't pretty but they'll take the win all right and it's not about the looks sometimes.

The Hurricanes had a chance to challenge for the win at the final whistle but knocked the ball on.

It's the sixth successive win for the Blues and they remain unbeaten against New Zealand teams.

The Queensland Reds also beat the Rebels 33-18 in Melbourne while the Cheetahs crushed the Lions 53-19 in Johannesburg.

Tonight the Chiefs square off against the Highlanders in Hamilton.
