McVean sells horse to Saudis

The Waikato showjumper Katie McVean has sold her New Zealand-bred mare Dunstan Delphi for an undisclosed multi-million dollar deal with the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation.

McVean and 9-year-old Delphi set records recently with their sixth equal placing at the World Cup final in Germany, and last year as New Zealand's best-ever performed showjumping combination at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.

McVean says her horse was never intended for sale, but as soon as they had their first Europe outing in March, horse agents started asking.

She says it was a hard decision to make, but the global tour is very expensive.

McVean admits she'll probably have to give up her London Olympic dream, however she has 8 young horses at home that she'll start working on.
