Breakers have three players with maximum points rankings

The New Zealand Breakers haven't got a lot of room to move around the Australian National Basketball League's points cap as they try to keep their champion squad intact.

Kirk Penney, and Americans Gary Wilkinson and Kevin Braswell, both of whom have yet to re-sign, have the league's maximum points ranking of 10, the most players from any club.

Teams are allowed a maximum of 70 points and there's also a salary cap of one million Australian dollars.

But the Breakers' general manager says their focus on development ahead of recruitment gives them valuable flexibility.

Richard Clarke says signing promising players such as Tom Abercrombie and Alex Pledger to long term deals means the points they had then remain for the rest of their contracts ,

For example, Clarke says the finals MVP Abercrombie was on one point when he was signed and is now on eight.
