After 105 test caps and eight years of international hockey the New Zealand women's goalkeeper Beth Jurgeleit is retiring.

Her retirement means she won't compete at the London Olympics next year as she concentrates on completing law and commerce degrees.

Jurgeleit, who's 30, says while the Olympics was a carrot to stay around she wants to complete her law degree so she can begin a career.

She says her career highlights include competing at the 2004 Athens Olympics, winning a silver medal at last year's New Delhi Commonwealth Games and beating Australia in the 2009 World Cup Qualifier in Invercargill.
