The Northern Mystics pipped the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 43-42 in a thrilling sudden death playoff at Hamilton's Mystery Creek to advance to a grand final showdown with the unbeaten Queensland Firebirds next Sunday.
The Mystics shooter Maria Tutaia outscored her Silver Ferns team-mate Irene Van Dyk 28 goals to 26 in the preliminary final with Catherine Latu nailing 15 to help lift the Auckland based side to victory.
The Mystics now face the daunting prospect of trying to topple the high flying Firebirds on their home court in Brisbane for the title, something no other team has been able to this year.
