The seriousness of Blues lock Kurtis Haiu's cancer diagnosis has been revealed, with the team doctor revealing Haiu has only a sixty five pecent chance of full recovery.

Blues team doctor Stephen Kara says a biopsy has shown Haiu has stage two bone cancer, after tests a fortnight ago revealed he had a lesion on his rib.

The diagnosis only adds to the 26 year olds Haiu's woes after it was revealed at the weekend he's to appear in court on assault charges and also lost money in money in a property deal.

Dr Kara says Ewing's sarcoma usually affects teenagers and those in their early twenties.

He says Haiu will have three months of chemotherapy and then surgery followed a further six months of chemotherapy.

Dr Kara says while the recovery rate is low in relation to other cancers, on Haiu's side is that he's young and fit.
