The Northern Mystics defender Kayla Cullen has been named as Best Young Player in the trans-Tasman netball championship.

Last week 19-year-old Cullen was included in the ANZ Championship All Star Team, in just her second season in the competition.

On Sunday Cullen will lineup for the Mystics against the Queensland Firebirds in the grand final in Brisbane.

Cullen was unanimously selected by the judging panel, comprising national selectors and former international representatives from Australia and New Zealand.

She finished ahead of Chelsea Pitman of Queensland and Sulu Tone-Fitzpatrick of the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic.

The Championship MVP will be named tomorrow.
