The Fiji rugby union says it won't play in next season's international sevens tournaments in Wellington or on the Gold Coast, if current travel bans continue.

Radio Fiji says the Fiji union has written to the International Rugby Board, saying while its committed to playing in the World Cup in New Zealand later this year, it won't be playing the sevens tournaments in New Zealand or Australia.

The union says with the current travel ban, whereby no Fiji player with military connections is allowed into New Zealand or Australia, Fiji is unable to field its best team.
