Former NRL player dies

The former North Queensland NRL player Sam Faust has lost his battle with leukaemia, dying in Townsville on Monday aged 26.

Faust played 24 matches for the Cowboys in 2007-08, before his rugby league career was cut short when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in 2009.

The Cowboys will pay tribute to Faust during Saturday night's home game against the Sydney Roosters.

General manager of football Peter Parr says he will always have fond memories of the young forward, who's probably best remembered for the run into the finals in 2007 when the Cowboys got to within one game of the grand final.
